RENDEZVOUS

A Counselor's Memories

by Marisa Gores, Lolo, 4-5th grade girls' counselor at Utmost summer 2000

Pastor Gray, Superior, at UtmostCamp was most amazing this summer. It was the first time I had counseled, and it was wonderful. The relationship I built with God and the kids, as well as my fellow counselors, was memorable. One particular young girl, Ashley, left a mark on me like no other. She wasn't from a well off family, spiritually or financially. She would eye the camp t-shirts as the other young girls walked by with them on. One time she started to ask me if I could help her out but soon changed the subject. I asked a couple counselors to help me out by pitching in a dollar or two to buy the shirt for her. Many were more than eager. Before she left I sat her down with words of encouragement and gave her the gift. She needs a lot of prayer as her parents aren't Christians. Her grandparents got her involved with the church. I've recently sent a children's devotional book to her, and I pray she gets the most out of it.

I've been keeping in touch with most "my girls", and I'm always grateful to receive one of their letters. Thank you so much for giving me the opportunity to counsel. If you ever need any more volunteer work, I'd be more than willing to help out in any way I can.

Leaving a Legacy of Love

Whether it's handing out Kool-Aid at camp, teaching crafts, or making and dishing up pudding, Mission people and volunteers sure do show God's love!
