RENDEZVOUS

VBS Rounds Up Kids for the Kingdom - Part I

by Kathy Simmons, Drummond Community Church

Drummond VBSersA western theme at the Drummond Vacation Bible School (VBS) introduced lessons on the Early Church as "gold nuggets of truth." Twenty-five children from Drummond attended. Brush Prairie Baptist Church of Vancouver Washington has come to Drummond and Philipsburg the past three years. Part of the group does outreach and work projects in Philipsburg, and several helped lead VBS in Drummond under the leadership of Michael and Mary Beuving and Gloria Whithorn.

Several very talented Brush Prairie junior highers were the anchor of the group and did fun, thought-provoking skits, and led music, games, and crafts. Drummond workers were Kathy Simmons, Rosina Jesse, Annie Gill, and Debi Bullock.

An interesting note: we advertised VBS for ages 4-14 and had eight local junior-highers attend daily. This made for interesting dynamics since the Brush Prairie leadership was the same age....and I think that’s what attracted our youth to keep coming daily.
