Meet an overcomerCarol Pomelear, Hamilton A Hamilton, Montana woman hobbles around on a broken foot. A checkup of the hand she had surgery on a few weeks ago reveals a similar problem in the other hand. This same woman had breast cancer surgery this year. She lost her brother to cancer recently, and in the last few years has endured other family crises, losses, and challenges too numerous to mention. Now, please meet Ellen Holton of Hamilton who just finished working in Vacation Bible School last week. She led songs and taught the 5th and 6th grade class. Earlier this year she began a ministry called God's Girls, which is currently reaching eight second to fifth graders. Visitors to Christ's Bible Church are drawn into the fellowship by her leadership of Sunday School opening time ― her enthusiasm, joy, and friendliness. She also spreads love and fun at Daly Elementary School as the Title 1 Math teacher. Isn't it great she is able to do these things and doesn't have the problems and difficulties of the woman I spoke of in the first paragraph? That woman would have to be so involved in her own problems she surely would have no time to help others! Guess what? Ellen led VBS songs with her foot in a cast! She started the first God's Girls' activity about six weeks after her mastectomy. And while dealing with her losses and challenges, she declares to children and all the rest of us that no Christian has an excuse for being grumpy. Ellen knows of the heaven that awaits us and the wonderful God that is always with us no matter what we go through. I haven't heard anyone yet say that she doesn't walk what she talks! |
