Church History

On March 29, 1953 a group of approximately 60 men, women, and children decided to form an independent congregation after having taken a biblical stand within another church.

At first calling itself the Church of Christ and meeting in a local carpenter's shop and later the American Legion Hall, the congregation had 45 charter members of whom two still attend.

Our first purchased building was the Unrue Shop at N. 2nd and River St. After extensive remodeling in May 1956 the building was dedicated and we became Christs Bible Church that same month.

In spring of 1965 the congregation, acting in faith, purchased the current building from the First Presbyterian Church4.

In April 1982 the building next door was purchased for additional Sunday school rooms. It is currently used as the parsonage.

It was in 1992 that the congregation committed a full 20% of its income to missions efforts around the world.

In 1999 one year following the installation of Ed Pomelear as pastor, the congregation elected to affiliate with the Rocky Mountain Bible Mission.

Interesting Historical Connections and Notes

  1. Charles West's son, Clark, who was three when they arrived, currently serves on the board of the Rocky Mountain Bible Mission with our current pastor. And Charles' daughter, Janet, is a missionary in Mexico for whom we regularly pray.

  2. Louis Yost's son, Andy, and his wife Cheryl serve in Spain as missionaries with Eastern Europe Missions. Andy serves as maintenance supervisor for a large Christian camp.

  3. William Springstead's daughter, Rilla, is also a missionary supported and prayed for regularly by the congregation. She serves with United World Mission as the executive assistant to the mission's executive director (in other words, she runs the place).

  4. The building was first used by the Presbyterian congregation on July 3, 1892. We are told its construction was ordered by Marcus Daly as a convenience to his lawyer who lived across the street. Prior to its founding, the closest Presbyterian congregation was in Stevensville.
