The Plummer CommunityPlummer, Idaho is located 35 miles south of the city of Coeur d’Alene, and is the largest town on the Coeur d’Alene Indian Reservation. Homesteaders settled much of the Reservation about 100 years ago, after the Coeur d’Alene nation received their land allotments. The population remains mixed with roughly equal percentages of Natives and non-Natives. Plummer is between the rolling farmlands to the West and South and the logging and mining areas of the North and East.The southern tip of Lake Coeur d’Alene is five miles East of Plummer (population about 1,000). As the stretch of Highway 95 from Plummer to the city of Coeur d’Alene is improved, more people who work in the Coeur d’Alene-Spokane area commute from Plummer. The largest employers in Plummer are the Coeur d’Alene Tribe, the Coeur d’Alene Tribe-owned Benewah Medical Center, the Plummer-Worley Lakeside School District and the sawmill. |
